AUSTIN, Texas – Sun Devil women's swimming and diving finished up the final day of the 2019 Women's Swimming and Diving National Championships, taking the block in two events on the day.
The women finish their campaign with 61 points for 20th place, nearly double the 34 points the squad garnered in 2018 to take 23rd.
Emma Nordin and Cierra Runge against represented ASU in Austin, competing in the 1650 free. Nordin raced to a personal best by over five seconds, taking 9th overall with a time of 15:54.83. The sophomore also achieved honorable mention All-America honors, the first of her career.
Runge finished in 8th for back-to-back Sun Devils in the results, clocking in at 15:53.72. She earned her second First-Team All-America honors of the week with the finish, with the first coming in the 500 free on Thursday.
The Sun Devils finished up the night with the 400 free relay, ending their week the exact same way they started it: with a school record. Taking 15th in the preliminary round for a spot in the consolation finals, the foursome of Fanny Teijonsalo, Camryn Curry, Nordin and Runge took the block later that evening.
Touching the wall at 3:14.38, the women broke the record they had set just a few weeks earlier at the 2019 Pac-12 Championships, coming in 14th with the finish for honorable mention All-America honors.
ASU showcased major improvement this time around compared to last, nearly doubling their point total while moving up three spots. Seven Sun Devils notched All-America honors – including Runge's two First-Team placements – compared to just three last season as well. Building a foundation for seasons to come, all but one of the 2019 All-Americans were underclassmen.
