The surging Arizona State men's golf team is competing at Tucson's National Invitational Tournament (NIT) March 18-19. The competition will be held at Omni Tucson National on the 7,262 yard, par-72 Catalina Course. Shotgun starts are set for an 8 a.m. on Monday (36 holes) and Tuesday (final 18).
THAT RECORD: ASU's head-to-head record on the season, with two victories, five second-place finishes and one fourth-place finish, is 102-8-1.
LAST TIME OUT: Four top-ten finishes led the fourth-ranked Arizona State men's golf team as it captured their second victory of the year by a one-stroke margin over Texas at the Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic on March 11-12. ASU was led by Mason Andersen, finishing tied for first with two other players at six-under, and then winning the playoff over Cole Hammer (Texas) and Blake Hathcoat (St. Mary's) by making par on No. 18. Three other Sun Devils finished in the top ten, Chun An Yu tied for fourth place at 3-under and both Blake Wagonerand Alex del Rey finished tied for 10th.
ADR: Junior and 2018 All-Pac-12 First-Team selection Alex del Rey put his name among the heavy hitters in Ireland back in September. Much like Jon Rahm did in 2014, del Rey entered the final round of the 215-player World Amateur Championship with a chance to win the Eisenhower Trophy. He came up big, posting eight birdies and no bogeys with a final-round 8-under 65 to win the title. He shot a 64 in the second round -- which would match the best of tournament -- and finished at 23-under 267 (70-64-68-65) to win the title by one stroke over Japan's Takumi Kanaya.
