FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Two Sun Devils divers punched their ticket to the NCAA Swimming and Diving National Championships in Flagstaff today, as Youssef Selim qualified for the one meter spring board while Ashley McCool qualified in the three meter board.
 
On day one of the Zone E Championships, Youssef Selim and David Hoffer stepped onto the one meter springboard while Ashley McCool and Frida Kaellgren competed in the three meter board.
 
In a field of 25 on the men's side, Selim took the top score in the preliminary round while Hoffer placed fifth. With the top 18 finishers moving onto the final round, both men earned a spot to compete for a National Championship bid.
 
Halfway through, Selim sat in second with a combined score of 496.50 while Hoffer sat in eighth with his three most difficult dives ahead of him.
 
Moving into first place after scoring a 63.00 on his fourth dive of the finals, Selim earned an average of 6.5 on his fifth dive and then posted a score of 57.60 on his final dive to cement himself in second place to secure his second-straight National Championship appearance in one meter.
 
Hoffer finished the final in 10th, falling short of the four bids allotted in the men's one meter.
 
Over on the women's three meter event, sophomores McCool and Kaellgren both moved onto the final rounds after placing second and 17th, respectively.
 
With the top eight women earning a chance to compete in Austin, McCool stood in fourth place while Kaellgren was in 15th through two dives. Kaellgren gained some traction in her next couple of dives, moving into 10th after her fourth dive of the final.
 
McCool finished day one in fifth place with a combined score of 623.50, effectively earning her second-straight appearance in the three meter at the national championships. Kaellgren missed a bid by less than one point, placing ninth with a combined score of 593.25.
