TEMPE – The Sun Devil women's tennis team has made its first signing of the season with Greek international Marianna Argyrokastriti set to join Sheila McInerney's squad in 2020.
"We are thrilled to have Marianna join our program next August," associate head coach Matt Langley said. "First and foremost, she is an incredible person that will be a great team player and she comes from a terrific family and is a high character individual.
"Marianna is a talented left-hander that is passionate about developing her game and we feel that she has a tremendous upside," Langley said. "She will definitely make an immediate impact to our program in both singles and doubles".
Although born in and representing Greece on the international stage, Argyrokastriti trained in Belgium at the Justine Henin Academy where world No. 6 and Wimbledon semifinalist Elina Svitolina also trained.
Argyrokastriti was a member of the Greek National Team at the European Summer Cup Championships in 2019 and was a quarterfinalist at the ITF $15,000 Futures Event in Brussels with a Universal Tennis Rating score of 11.37.
While Argyrokastriti will join the Devils in the Fall of 2020, Arizona State's spring season with a roster that feature's two All-Americans will get going in January as they host Northern Colorado and NAU on Jan. 19.
