TEMPE, Ariz. – Head Coach Trisha Ford has announced the addition of utility player Mailey McLemore to the 2020 Sun Devil Softball roster.

McLemore comes to Arizona State after spending one season at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills, California, where she made an immediate impact in a variety of ways for the Owls.

The California native was an all-around standout in her one season at Foothill College, starring both in the circle and at the plate. She led the entire California Community College Athletic Association in batting average, finishing her freshman campaign hitting .570. McLemore also finished at the top of the most competitive Community College conference with 17 home runs and 76 RBI in only 43 games. She stole 20 bases and drew 25 walks, two of many ways she can produce runs, and added 22 doubles and five triples, a big reason why she slugged an incredible 1.163.

"We are excited to add Mailey to our roster this spring," said Sun Devil head coach Trisha Ford.  "She brings some more depth to the infield along with another option off the bench offensively.  I am excited to see her develop in our system."

She was equally successful on the mound, serving as the ace of an Owls' staff that helped the team to a 30-13 record and an appearance in the 2019 CCCAA Softball Northern Regional. McLemore appeared in 40 games on the mound, posting a 23-10 record and 2.15 ERA in 37 games started. She also showed the ability to come in relief, closing out a pair of games to earn the save.

McLemore was locked-in during a six-game stretch (Feb. 24-Mar. 2), putting together 28 consecutive scoreless innings.

McLemore attended Carlmont High School, where she was a four-year varsity starter and two-way star. She was a two-time Cal Hi Sports Softball Player of the Year (2017 & 2018), earning the award each of her final two years in high school. McLemore was also named the 2018 Central Coast Section Softball Player of the Year by Cal-High Sports Bay Area after a brilliant senior season. Adding to prep career trophy case, she was named The Daily Journal's Softball Player of the Year after the 2018 season. McLemore batted .425 in her 105-game varsity career, launching 15 home runs and driving in 109 runs. In the circle, she won 48 games and struck out 307 batters while posting a 1.50 ERA in 341.1 innings pitched.

McLemore will be eligible immediately when she comes to Tempe, with three years of eligibility remaining. She originally committed to UCSB out of high school before deciding to attend junior college.

The announcement comes after Coach Ford welcomed seven student-athletes who signed their national letters of intent and will join the team for the 2021 season. The class, made up of two outfielders, three infielders, a catcher and a pitcher, was named the No. 12 recruiting class by FloSoftball, and is comprised of players from four different states.
