FORT WORTH – Six current Sun Devil wrestlers and two alums will get set to compete in the USA Wrestling Senior Nationals this weekend (Dec. 20-22) in Fort Worth, Texas at the Fort Worth Convention Center.
Josh Shields (74 kg), Anthony Valencia (74 kg), Zahid Valencia (86 kg), Tanner Hall (125 kg) will compete in the men's freestyle division, while freshman phenom Cohlton Schultz (130 kg) and Chad Porter (97kg) will wrestle in Greco-Roman.
Z. Valencia goes into the weekend seeded No. 2, with a potential rematch with former three-time National Champion Alex Dieringer on the horizon. The two faced off against each other in each of the past two years in the World Team Trials at 79 kg, with Valencia winning both matches in 2018 and Dieringer winning twice in 2019 for berths into Final X.
Hall will enter at No. 8 at 125 kg, while teammate A. Valencia will wrestle seeded No. 9 at 74 kg. Schultz and Porter will both make an appearance on Friday as Schultz comes in at No. 1 at 130 kg and Porter is seeded No. 7 at 97 kg.
ASU alums Kelsey Campbell and Kevin Radford (86 kg) will also be competing at the Senior Nationals in men's freestyle and women's freestyle. Campbell enters the tournament seeded No. 1 at 57 kg.
With the 2020 Olympics right around the corner, the best wrestlers in the nation will square off in men's freestyle, women's freestyle and Greco-Roman events to earn a chance at moving on to the US Olympic Trials. The top-five wrestlers per weight class will move on to the 2020 Olympic Team Trials, set to take place April 4-5 in State College, Pennsylvania.
Fans will have the chance to watch the action this weekend, as it will be streamed live on Flowrestling.org with live results on FloArena. Coverage gets underway with Greco-Roman at 9 a.m. MST on Friday.
