KAILUA KONA, HI – The No. 2 Sun Devil Women's Golf team earned a third place finish at the 2019 Pac-12 Preview, hosted at Nanea Golf Club on the Island of Hawaii.
"I am very proud of how this team competed today, this week, and all of the fall," Coach Missy Farr-Kaye remarked. "Raquel Olmos and Alexandra Forsterling led us with Top-10 finishes this week."
Arizona State (-7/869) put together back-to-back quality rounds to move into third place, posting the lowest 54-hole team score at the Pac-12 Preview in program history. The third-place finish is the highest by the Sun Devils at the event since they won the tournament championship back in 2016. The Maroon & Gold have now finished in the Top-Five as a team in all four tournaments, including earning a spot in the Top-Three at the past two events with their win at Stanford Intercollegiate back last month. At one of the most competitive tournaments of the fall, ASU finished ahead of No. 1 Stanford, No. 5 USC and No. 15 Oregon.
Coming into the day sitting in fourth place just a stroke back of No. 5 USC, the Sun Devils immediately made a move into third place early into the third round. Linn Grant (-1/218) was on top of her game to start the day, recording birdies on four of her first five holes. She would go on to claim her fourth consecutive Top-15 finish to start her collegiate career thanks to her second round (-1/72) under-par on the weekend, earning a tie for 13th.
Raquel Olmos (-5/214) entered the day in the Top-10, looking to continue her climb in the standings. She did exactly that, firing her second consecutive 70 (-3) to move into sixth place. The impressive result gives her two consecutive Top-10 finishes this season and five in her career. Olmos led the team with five birdies for the second consecutive day. The junior also paced the entire field in scoring average on par-four (-4/3.88) and par-five (-6/4.50) opportunities.
Alexandra Forsterling (-2/217) was one of two Sun Devils to finish in the Top-10, as the sophomore ended up in a tie for 10th. Her six bogeys were the lowest of anyone on the team, combating that by recording nine birdies. This represents her highest finish of the season and second-highest finish of Forsterling's collegiate career.
Arizona State consistency was a big part of their excellent finish, as they led the field with 176 pars made. The Sun Devils also finished third in the tournament with 51 birdies. The Maroon & Gold had the second-best scoring average (+1/4.01) on par-four holes of any team in the field.
No. 8 Arizona (-19/857) took home the team title, with Rino Sasaki (-9/210) from Washington earning the individual title.

LOOKING AHEAD
The Fall portion of the 2019-20 schedule has now come to an end, as the Sun Devils will have a few months off before they compete again. Arizona State will begin their Spring schedule on January 26th, when they face off with No. 22 UCLA and Denver at Superstition Mountain Prospector Golf Course in Gold Canyon, Arizona. A reminder that Arizona State University and Grayhawk Golf Club will host the 2020 through 2022 NCAA Division I Men's & Women's Golf Championships on Golf Channel in Scottsdale, Ariz.
