TEMPE, Ariz. – Sun Devil Triathlon announced their second and final recruit to come to campus next fall in Amber Schlebusch of South Africa. She joins Katy Clausen in the two-woman signing class coach Cliff English crafted to contribute to his squad.

"I am eternally grateful and humbled to be given this opportunity to study at one of the best universities in the U.S.," Schlebusch said. "To be a part of a team that is professional, supportive and lively in everything they do is an honor and I look forward to committing my next four years of study and sport to ASU."

Schlebusch is an accomplished triathlete, placing in the top-15 at the Tiszaujvaros, Hungary ITU Triathlon World Cup in July. She also won three gold medals in 2019 so far at the ATU Triathlon African Championships, USA Trithlon Monroe Junior Elite Cup and the Durban ATU Triathlon Junior African Cup. She added a second-place finish at the Troutbeck ATU Triathlon African Cup in the Elite Ladies Sprint as well.

"Amber is a very talented draft legal triathlete from Durban South Africa who was the 2018 Youth Olympic Champion in Buenos Aires," English said. "We are very excited to have Amber join the ASU team in the Fall of 2020."

The South African has also performed well at the Olympic level, taking gold at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics in Bueno Aires last October for South Africa's first ever gold medal in triathlon. The talented triathlete has experience in duathlon, swimming and cross country as well.

"I believe this young woman with Olympic aspirations will have a big impact on our team immediately and on the collegiate circuit as we work towards her goals of the Olympics one day," English said.

Schlebusch and Clausen are set to join a Sun Devil triathlon squad poised to return all seven racers from last week's National Championship team. The two are expected to make an immediate impact, as even 2019 freshman Liberty Ricca turned heads with an impressive season that culminated with a sixth place finish at Nationals and a USA Triathlon Freshman of the Year honor.
