TEMPE, Ariz. -- Head coach Graham Winkworth and the Sun Devil soccer team welcomed Canadian Jazmine Wilkinson to the squad for the 2020 competition season.
"I am delighted to welcome Jaz to the Sun Devil Family," Winkworth said of the talented Canadian. "Jaz is a central midfielder who comes from the Vancouver Whitecaps organization. She was an absolute delight to get to know on her visit and I have no doubt in my mind she will be a crucial part of our team's future in the next few years."
A year ago, Wilkinson was selected to compete for the Canadian U17 team at the 2018 World Cup in Uruguay. The talented midfielder played 80 total minutes in the national competition, helping Canada to a semi-final appearance.
"She is a player that has the ability to play in any role in the midfield," Winkworth added. "Her movement is great and her ability to pass and control the tempo of games is something that excites me. Jaz is also a big threat in the air and I am sure will be an additional threat on set pieces as well. I like to compare her to a Brazilian player named Fernandinho, which was funny because on her visit she told me her favorite soccer team was Manchester City and she compared her style of soccer to his. Jaz has experience with her national team of Canada and represented them at the most recent U17 Women's World Cup."
