TEMPE - After having their historic season come to an end at the hands of Quinnipiac, Sun Devil Hockey (4-3-0) exacted their revenge and made program history, recording their first home win over a top-10 opponent.

In their first rematch since meeting in the NCAA Tournament, the Sun Devils didn't back down as they topped the No. 9 Bobcats (4-2-0), 5-3.

"We really needed this one and some payback for what happened in last year's tournament and it was such a team effort as we battled through it," said goaltender Evan DeBrouwer. "It is one of those wins that feels really good."

After the Bobcats jumped out to an early lead, getting one past sophomore netminder Evan DeBrouwer in just the third minute of play, the Devils quickly responded with three unanswered goals.

A year after recording 104 points (60 G, 44 A) in just 59 games, true freshman Logan Jenuwine left his fingerprints all over the historic win, potting two goals -- one of which gave the Sun Devils their first and last lead of the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • After Quinnipiac jumped out to an early lead, the Devils wasted no time responding, as junior D-man Jacob Wilson followed his shot and buried the rebound the negate the Bobcats' early lead.
  • After 10 minutes of play all knotted up at a goal a piece, the Bobcats took the game's first penalty giving Logan Jenuwine the room he needed to rip one past the Quinnipiac goalie, giving ASU the lead, 2-1.
  • With a minute remaining in the 1st period, sophomore Demetrios Koumontzis was called for a 5-minute major and a game misconduct for checking from behind. The Sun Devils managed to kill the final minute of the 1st period and proceeded to kill the first 4 minutes of the 2nd period to generate momentum.
  • The Devils kept the pressure up in the second period, drawing 3 power play opportunities, allowing the offense to gradually build momentum until the captain, Brinson Pasichnuk found his partner, Joshua Maniscalco who buried a one-timer to pad ASU's lead.
  • Following a short-handed goal by the Bobcats to draw them back within one, the Devils answered once again, rattling off two quick goals. First, it was Jack Judson who toe-dragged by a would be shot-blocker to snipe home his first career goal, and then it was Logan Jenuwine, grabbing his second goal of the night as he out-waited the Bobcat goaltender following a sexy feed from Jacob Wilson.
  • Quinnipiac answered once again with a 6-on-4 advantage, but despite two late Sun Devil penalties that was all the Bobcats could muster, giving the Devils their third straight win.
GAME FACTS:
  • The win marked ASU's first ever win on home ice vs. a top-10 opponent and the first overall since last year's upset win @ Penn State on Nov. 3 (4-3/OT).
  • The Sun Devil penalty kill stymied the Bobcats' first four power plays, including a five-minute major. The only power play goal came with an extra attacker and an empty net in the final minutes.
  • Senior defenseman Brinson Pasichnuk blocked six shots in the victory.
  • The 3-game winning streak marks the Sun Devils' longest since rattling off 5 straight from Jan. 26-Feb. 16 (1 vs. Boston U., 2 vs. RIT and 2 vs. AIC).
  • The win marked ASU's eighth against the ECAC, tied for the second most against any single conference (also: Hockey East), trailing only the Atlantic Hockey Conference (10).
  • Freshman defenseman Jack Judson scored his first career goal and point.
  • Evan DeBrouwer had his second-straight game with 30-plus saves, making 35 on 38 shots faced. It's his third-straight victory between the pipes.
  • ASU recorded a sellout for the 15th consecutive game @ Oceanside Ice Arena.
