Fayetteville, Ark. -- Redshirt-sophomore placekicker Cristian Zendejas was named one of a record 83 players nominated for the 2019 Burlsworth Trophy.
Now in its tenth year, the Trophy is named in honor of Brandon Burlsworth, former University of Arkansas Walk-On and All-American offensive lineman, and is given annually to the most outstanding football player who began his career as a Walk-On and has shown outstanding performance on the field.
Zendejas, a local player out of Chandler, Ariz., has stepped up to take over kicking duties for the Sun Devils at the start of the 2019 season. He has been a reliable piece of the Sun Devil offense, going 13-17 (76%) in field goal attempts and has been a perfect 20-for-20 in PAT attempts.
The Brandon Burlsworth Foundation, in conjunction with Springdale Rotary Club, will host an awards ceremony on December 9, 2019, in Springdale, AR to honor the three finalists and to announce the 2019 winner.
Fans can catch Zendejas and the Sun Devil football team in action this weekend when ASU hosts USC Saturday afternoon at Sun Devil Stadium. A few tickets still remain for Saturday's Pac-12 South matchup and can be purchased by visiting Ticketmster.com, or by calling the ASU ticket office at 480-727-0000.
