Budapest, Hungary – After competing at the 2018 Junior Worlds in Trnava, Slovakia last year, redshirt sophomore Chad Porter will move up an age division and represent the United States in Greco-Roman at the U23 World Championships, set to begin Oct. 28-Nov. 3 in Budapest, Hungary.
Porter is slotted to wrestle at 97 kg for Team USA after finishing second at the World Team Trials in June. This will mark Porter's second appearance on the world stage in international competition.
Outside of world competition, Porter has been highly successful wrestling in the states as he has also notched multiple top-eight finishes at the US Open in the Junior Greco division, including being named a two-time Junior Greco Fargo All-American.
The Phoenix, Ariz. native will start his chase towards gold on Friday, as he lines up to face off against Naoki Matsumoto of Japan, with the winner to go head-to-head with either Dzmitry Kaminski (Belarus)/Temur Mirzo Mamajanov (Uzbekistan).
Greco-Roman action is slated to run Nov. 1-3.
