MALIBU, Calif. – Ilze Hattingh defeated two top-45 opponents and Tereza Kolarova advanced to a semifinal over the weekend at the Women's Collegiate Invitational in Malibu, California.

The Sun Devils didn't have to travel as far as they did in the first weekend of the fall season as this weekend's tournament took place on the campus of Pepperdine University. The picturesque locale served as a backdrop to one of the best tennis tournaments of the year that included ranked singles and doubles players from across the country.

Two of the ranked singles players fell at the hands of another ranked player in senior Sun Devil No. 75 Hattingh.

Although the ASU All-American dropped her weekend-opening match, Hattingh bounced back the following day to outlast No. 35 Georgia Drummy of Vanderbilt 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in a consolation match.

She followed up her win over the Commodore sophomore with another ranked win, this time over a Pac-12 foe in No. 42 Anna Bright of Cal. Like her upset on Friday, Hattingh split the first two sets with Bright, but held on in a tiebreak this time to take the match 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(7).

In the main blue draw, Kolarova found herself in the tournament semifinal after beating Emma Kurtz of Vanderbilt in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6(5).

Samantha Alicea also scored a singles win in consolation play by dominating North Carolina's Sofia Patel, 6-1, 6-1.

In doubles play, Sammi Hampton has a perfect win percentage so far this weekend as she has won all three of her doubles matches with three different partners.

On day one, the familiar duo of Hampton/Alicea took care of a Vandy duo, 6-1. She teamed up with Kolarova on day two to battle a Duke duo to a 7-6(4) win, and the senior partnership of Hampton/Hattingh handled Giavara Stegman of California, 6-3.

The Sun Devil women will complete the weekend at Pepperdine tomorrow as each woman is guaranteed one more singles and doubles match before they head back to Tempe with two Fall competitions under their belts.
