TEMPE, Ariz.—Prior to the Arizona State football game versus Washington State on Saturday, Oct. 12, fans are encouraged to bring new socks, starting at 11 a.m., and going until kickoff at 12:30 p.m., to donate into bins at all Sun Devil Stadium entrance gates.
The donations will benefit Phoenix Children's Hospital, A New Leaf and Care 7.
The sock collection is coordinated by the ASU Women's Organization-Football, which is comprised of coaches and administrators spouses and significant others surrounding the football program. As a group they give back to the community in various capacities.
"It is an honor to be a part of giving back to our community at any level, but very exciting to do it on game day with ASU students, fans and alumni," says Lia Edwards, chief organizer of the group. "We have three local organizations in Community Outreach with City of Tempe CARE 7, New Leaf and Phoenix Children's Hospital that do great work and I am so happy that we can create public awareness about the need for a simple clothing item like socks."
In order for the donations to be accepted, the socks need to be brand new, but do not need to be in the package. To cooperate with Sun Devil Stadium's clear bag policy, the packaging containing the socks needs to be clear.
