TEMPE, Ariz.- Freshman forward Dai Williams scored her fifth goal of the season, but it was not enough as the Arizona State soccer team fell to Oregon State, 3-1, on Thursday night at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium.
The Beavers kicked things off early, netting the game's first goal in the 19th minute. Forward Mckenzie Weinhart fired a ball into the back of the net to give Oregon State a 1-0 advantage. The visitors would go on to add a second goal in the 39th minute to take a 2-0 lead into the halftime break.
Kicking off the second half, the Sun Devil defense would stand firm with freshman goalkeeper Giulia Cascapera making a handful of saves to keep ASU within striking distance.
Unfortunately, the Beavers would tally their third goal of the match in the 70th- minute of play, forcing ASU to fight their way back into the match with just 20 minutes remaining in regulation.
The Sun Devils would keep pressing, finding their first goal in the match in the 81st minute, when Nicole Douglas sent a ball forward to Williams who would slot the ball past a diving OSU keeper to push the score to 3-1.

A Word With Winkworth...
Winkworth on the team's performance in Thursday's game;
"First of all, Credit to Oregon State and Coach Kagan. I hate it when I have to say that a team wanted it more than us. That is something that is inexcusable, but today Oregon State came ready to fight and deserved to be in front. We did not win enough challenges. We were soft in our tackles, and that is something that is not skill or technique, that is passion and heart and we need more of it. We have got to have a response. It should be our standard, and then let the skill take over. Hard work overrides talent every day, and we need to work harder. In the last 15 minutes of the game, when we really worked hard, I thought we looked to be the better side and were the more dangerous team. If we had started the game I think it might have been a different result."
On the team's tough stretch of games;
"It is difficult. Winning is contagious, losing is contagious just as much, but hard work is also contagious. If two or three people would step up and then that could become three or four, then four or five, there just wasn't that many people giving that sort of effort today and that was disappointing."
