HUDDLESTON, Va. – Sun Devil women's triathlon finishes up their 2019 regular season this week, travelling to Virginia for the East Regional Qualifier Saturday. The squad looks to sweep the regular season with their third first place finish in three races, a feat they accomplished for the first time last season.
Through the first two races of the season, Sun Devils hold eight of the top-10 fastest time among all three divisions of triathlon, including the top five times in the nation. Kyla Roy holds two of the top three overall finish times, racing to a time of 1:00:45 at the Central Qualifier and 1:01:12 at the West Qualifier. Audrey Ernst follows with second and fourth, while Kira Stanley (fifth and eighth) rounds out the Devils with multiple top-10 times.
Huddleston hosts the East Qualifier for the second year in a row, as the Sun Devils placed first as a team last time around. There were several firsts in Virginia last season, including Ernst's first collegiate triathlon, Catherine Giuseffi and Olivia Jenks' first top-10 finishes, Stanley's highest collegiate finish, and a tie for Rebecca Naughton's highest collegiate finish. Stanley had the only sub-nine-minute swim of the competition and Ernst had the fastest run among the field.
Saturday's event will be held at Smith Mountain Lake State Park and will begin at 9 a.m. MST. Keep up with the action of Sun Devil women's triathlon all season long by following @SunDevilTri on Twitter.
