TEMPE, Ariz. – Sun Devil Athletics has tied the all-time high of 88 percent Graduation Success Rate (GSR) for its student-athletes, announced by the NCAA on Wednesday.

Sun Devil Athletics has either maintained or surpassed its all-time best GSR every year since 2008 and is just four percentage points away from the top three in the Pac-12 Conference. Seven teams posted GSR scores at 100 percent – men's basketball, women's basketball, gymnastics, women's swimming and diving, softball, women's tennis, and volleyball.

"Sun Devil Athletics has equaled an all-time high Graduation Success Rate of 88 percent," said Jean Boyd, Deputy Athletic Director and Chief of Staff. "For the 11th-consecutive year, SDA has maintained or increased its GSR. The Office of Student-Athlete Development, led by Andrea Lore, continues to be a catalyst for this great work, in partnership with our coaches, the campus community, and student-athletes."

Sun Devil Athletics' GSR has risen 19 percent since the metric was first introduced by the NCAA in 2005 and ASU set a new goal of 90 percent after surpassing its original goal of 80 percent in 2012.

ASU ranks third (85 percent) in the Pac-12 in graduation rates of African American student-athletes. African-American females is 100 percent, first in the Pac-12, while African-American males is 80 percent, fifth in the Pac-12. Among female student-athletes GSR is 96 percent, while among males, it's 81 percent.

Two teams set all-time highs in GSR. Women's basketball reached 100 percent for the first time, while baseball set an all-time high of 96 percent.

Women's tennis and softball continued 11 and five-year streaks, respectively, in which they've recorded 100 percent GSR. Men's basketball, gymnastics and women's swimming and diving all reached 100 percent GSR for the second-straight year.

"Seven sports, including men's basketball, recorded 100 percent Graduation Success Rates. Of special note is the achievement of our African American student-athletes. We are third overall for African American student-athlete GSR, and we are the best for African American women. Our comprehensive goal remains 90 percent or above at all times and we will remain relentless in these efforts," said Boyd.

GSR is the NCAA's primary tool for measuring academic success in Division I athletics and, unlike the federal government's methodology, accounts for student-athlete transfers from one institution to another. It's designed to show the proportion of student-athletes on any given team who earn a college degree.

This is the 28th release of institutional graduation rates since national "right-to-know" legislation was passed in 1990. In 2005, the NCAA DI Committee on Academic Performance released the first set of GSR data.
