Seattle, Wash. – The Arizona State soccer team dropped to 6-5-2 on the season after falling, 1-0, to Washington at Husky Soccer Stadium Thursday night.

Washington found the back of the net in just the fourth minute of play when Isabella Castro and Lisa Jensen teamed up to find Olivia Van Der Jagt for the game's lone goal.

From there, the Sun Devils would hold the Huskies scoreless in the remaining 86 minutes of play anchored by a spirited effort from freshman goalkeeper, Giulia Cascapera, who carded a career-high 10 saves in the match, including a save on a penalty kick late in the game.

Arizona State will be back in action Sunday when the team travels to Pullman, Wash., to face the 15th ranked Washington State Cougars at Lower Soccer Field. Fans can follow all of the action from Sunday's game by following @SunDevilSoccer on Twitter and Instagram.

A Word With Winkworth:
On the mindset of the team following Thursday's match;
"Right now, we are obviously disappointed to not get a result in this game. All credit to Washington, they worked extremely hard, as did we. They managed to put one away early, but both goalkeepers remained busy making saves. I think maybe on another day, one of ours goes in, and theirs doesn't. All credit to their team. When you play two tough opponents on any weekend, whether you win or whether you lose, you can't let yourself get too high or too low. You can be disappointed in a result like tonight, but when you wake up tomorrow you have to be on to the next game."

On the effort in goal from Cascapera;
"She had a great game. I thought we were a little unfortunate not to get a free kick in the buildup to the penalty, but she ended up making a good save. I thought tonight was sort of like an introduction, a sort of standout game that will help stamp her place as a collegiate player. I was really proud of her, and as a team we have all got to feed of that and step up to the same level on Sunday."

On Taylor Culver's performance leading up to the final minute of the match;
"I thought leading up to the red card, Taylor (Culver) was having an excellent game on the backline. She has been working extremely hard, and come a long way in the last nine months. I am really proud of how hard she was playing and I know she will learn from today's game. She played extremely well for the other 89 minutes of the match."

Mach Notes:
  • Thursday's match marked the first time the full ASU team has played together since Sept. 20.

  • Freshman Giulia Cascapera's ten saves in Thursday's match marks a new career high, topping her previous high of eight saves set during the Utah game on Sept. 27th.
