TEMPE, Ariz. – Sun Devil Hockey announced the addition of NHL goaltender Eddie Läck to the coaching staff on Thursday as a volunteer coach.

Läck, who spent five years in the NHL and nine years in professional hockey, holds a 56-55-18 record in 144 NHL appearances with a 2.62 goals against average and .909 save percentage. On Wednesday, Lack announced he was temporarily stepping away from the game due to injury and joining the ASU staff for the 2019-20 season.

"I'm really excited to join the Sun Devil Hockey staff," said Läck. "The program is growing so much and I'm looking forward to having a really successful season."

The 2017 IIHF World Champion goaltender will work directly with the Sun Devils' three goaltenders – Evan DeBrouwer, Max Prawdzik and Justin Robbins.

Läck is from Norrtälje, Sweden, and won a gold medal in the 2017 IIHF World Championships with his native country.

During his career, he has played for Vancouver, Carolina, Calgary and New Jersey in the NHL. Within the AHL, where he played over 140 games, he played for Manitoba, Chicago, Charlotte, Stockton and Binghamton. In 2010-11, while with Manitoba, he was named to the AHL All-Rookie team.

"We are thrilled to add Eddie to our staff," said head coach Greg Powers. "Eddie has a contagiously positive approach to the game and to life. He will not only benefit our student athletes but our entire staff as well. We couldn't me more excited to welcome Eddie to Sun Devil Hockey."

Läck is now the second former professional hockey player on the staff, joining veteran forward and assistant coach Alex Hicks.

The Sun Devils begin their 2019-20 season on Oct. 5-6 against Mercyhurst in Tempe.
