PERTHSHIRE, Scotland – Three former members of the Sun Devil Women's Golf program have been selected to Team Europe which will compete in the 2019 Solheim Cup, taking place at the PGA Centenary Course at the Gleneagles Hotel.
The tournament pits a team of European golfers against a team of American golfers, beginning September 13 and running until September 15. To be selected as one of the 12 golfers to qualify for an international team, an individual must meet one of the following criteria:
For Anna Nordqvist, it is her sixth consecutive Solheim Cup appearance, making her debut back in 2009. In the last edition of the event, Nordqvist earned 3.5 points, the most by any European golfer. In 2013, Nordqvist became the first player in Solheim Cup history, on either team, to make a hole-in-one. She managed to qualify based on Rolex Women's World Rankings.
Carlota Ciganda will make her fourth consecutive appearance on Team Europe, first earning a spot on the team back in 2013. She enjoyed quite the Solheim Cup debut that year, collecting three points for Europe by going 3-0 in her matchups. This helped Europe clinch their second-consecutive title, which also represents their last victory in the event. Ciganda qualified thanks to her finish at the top of the LET Solheim Cup Rankings, accumulating 150.88 points thanks to her terrific play leading up to the tournament.
After appearing in three consecutive Solheim Cups for Team Europe from 2011-15, Azahara Munoz finds herself back on Team Europe for the 2019 edition. She made her debut back in 2011 and is preparing to participate in her fourth Solheim Cup. Munoz managed to qualify based on Rolex Women's Rankings, currently sitting at No. 36 in the World.

The Solheim Cup is the pinnacle of women's golf with the best players from Europe and the USA going head-to-head in match play format. The event is contested between two teams of 12 players over three days.
