LIMA, Peru – Two former Canadian Sun Devils laced up for their nation at the 2019 Pan American Games this week in two-time All-American William Paulson and Canadian long jump record-holder Christabel Nettey.
In his first international competition representing his new home nation of Canada, Paulson managed to get onto the podium in Lima after taking third in the 1,500-meter final to earn a bronze medal.
The medal comes just a few weeks after Paulson made his Canadian Championships debut and won his first national title in the 1,500-meter run.
Although Paulson spent just one season in Tempe, his 2019 campaign was one for the record books as he earned his first and only first-team All-America honors in both the mile and 1,500-meter runs, set the school record in both events and won two conference championships in the mile and 1,500.
Tuesday afternoon in the Peruvian capital, two-time Pac-12/10 champion Nettey finished 14th in the women's long jump competition with a leap of 5.96m/19-6.75 feet.
Her season is not finished though as she will represent Canada one more time later next month at the World Championships in Doha, Qatar after she won her seventh-straight national title in the long jump.
