WEST CHESTER, OH. – Three Sun Devil triathletes placed in the top-20 at the USA Triathlon Junior Elite Championships over the weekend, including sweeping two of the three podium spots in sophomore Kira Stanley (second place) and freshman Liberty Ricca (third place). Rounding out the Sun Devils in the competition was sophomore Olivia Jenks (20th).
The event has sold out for the past five years, with nearly 1,000 athletes ages 7-19 competing for national titles annually. The race featured a 750m swim, 20k bike and 5k run.
Stanley raced to a time of 1:02.35 to take second place, splitting 10:07 in her first leg, 31:35 in her second and 18:19 for her third. Incoming freshman Ricco finished just 11 seconds behind her at 1:02.46 while Jenks finished not far behind at 1:04.23.
Stanley was also a part of the mixed relay squad at took home first place.
As the triathletes slowly finish up their summer slate, they turn their heads toward the regular season kicking off Sep. 1 with the Central Regional Qualifier. Check out their full season slate by clicking here.
The Sun Devils conclude their season once again in Tempe, hosting the USA Triathlon Collegiate National Championship right at home at the Tempe Town Lake. The team is looking for their fourth-consecutive national championship in as many years as a program, while junior Hannah Henry also aims to take home her third-straight individual title.
