TEMPE, Arizona—The Sun Devil Football team, under the direction of second-year Head Coach Herm Edwards will make its annual trek to Camp Tontozona —ASU's iconic preseason football camp — on Monday, August 5 through Saturday, August 10.

The stay at Camp Tontozona will culminate with the annual maroon and gold practice Saturday, August 5 at 10 a.m. Practice is set to end around 12:15 p.m. and will be followed by an autograph session.

The team and support staff will travel to Camp Tontozona on Monday, August 5, and the first practice will be held Tuesday, August 6, at 10 a.m.  Practices while at Camp Tontozona will be once a day beginning at 10 a.m.

Sun Devil fans making the short trip to Camp Tontozona for any of the practices are reminded of these tips:
  • Parking is limited at Camp Tontozona.  Parking for the general public for Saturday, Aug. 10 will be in a closed section on the eastbound side of SR260 near Camp Tontozona Road.  Please follow the message boards, speed limit, and event parking signs on SR260 to the designated event parking areas.
  • Coming from Phoenix/Payson, please keep right on SR 260 once you leave Star Valley.  As drivers approach mile marker 267 they should merge to the right and proceed through the traffic restrictions and follow signs to the designated event parking area.
  • Coming westbound on SR 260 from point's east, drivers will be asked to turn left at Kohl's Ranch Rd.   Gila County Sherriff's will assist with traffic turning across SR 260.  Please follow the signs and DO NOT use Christopher Creek Rd. or Spring Creek Rd.
  • Parking attendants will be placed at the entrance locations to direct guests to the correct parking area.
  • Parking for disabled guests: Those displaying a plate or placard will be directed to park along Camp Tontozona Road.
  • There will be a limited number of shuttle carts on Camp Tontozona Rd. for limited mobility and disabled guests who may need assistance. Due to the expected large crowd and high volume of traffic, the shuttle service could potentially have a long wait. Fans should prepare for a long walk into Camp Tontozona from the parking areas.
  • A large crowd is anticipated so please be patient, travel early and safely.
  • ASU encourages fans to car pool and share rides to Camp Tontozona.
  • ASU will provide a shuttle service on Camp Tontozona Rd.
  • Pop-up tents are not allowed at Camp Tontozona.
  • Pets are not allowed at Camp Tontozona for the football practices.
  • Please note that alcohol and glass containers are prohibited from Camp Tontozona grounds.
  • Due to the possibility of inclement weather, fans should be prepared for rain during practice.
  • Concessions, Sun Devil Tickets and Sparky's Team Shop will be on site.
Set within the cool mountain country near Payson, Ariz., the camp borders the Tonto National Forest, which provides the first two syllables of Tontozona. The state of Arizona offers the last pair.

Mountains skirt the camp with water, contributing much of the beauty to the area with clear-running Tonto Creek just a moment's walk from the practice field.

Three man-sized waterfalls and clear-bottom swimming holes serve as refreshers to the Sun Devils. Wildlife is another prominent specialty of Tontozona; deer roaming the surrounding country and hawks circling the morning and evening skies are not uncommon sights.

Just minutes away by car are other attractions such as the spectacular Mogollon Rim and its breathtaking view and countryside that provide a haven for campers, horseback riders, hikers and picnickers.
