Sun Devil Billy Mayfair won the 1987 U.S. Amateur in Florida.

There are several Sun Devils in the field at the 2019 U.S. Amateur held at Pinehurst Resort & Country Club (Courses No. 2 and No. 4) at Village of Pinehurst, N.C., which goes from August 12-18. Here are some numbers and names to know for the 119th annual tournament with Sparky on their bags.

TRIO OF CHAMPIONS: Three Sun Devils have won the U.S. Amateur title, with the last win by a Sun Devil coming 19 years ago when Eugene, Ore., native Jeff Quinney beat James Driscoll in 39 holes in New Jersey.

THE FIRST TEAM ALL-AMERICAN AUSTRALIAN MASTER: As in 2019 First-Team All-American Chun An Yu, who has earned a spot in the U.S. Amateur by making the 2019 U.S. Open and also as a top-50 player in the World Amateur Golf Rankings.

THE LOCAL GUY: Blake Wagoner is from North Carolina, so consider this a homecoming for the Cornelius, N.C. native. He has played in 38 events (117 rounds) and has a 72.44 stroke aveage with 22 rounds in the 60s and 55 at par or better.

HE IS THE WON: Won Jun Lee qualified with an 8-under 136 (67-69) at Lakeside Golf Course in Lexington, KY, on July 8 as he finished second.

ARIZONA'S OWN MASON ANDERSEN: Chandler's own Mason Anderson was the medalist at the qualifier at Whirlwind GC in Chandler, Ari., on July 11. Playing in his hometown, Andersen had the lowest score at the qualifying site by four shots.

NEW GUY ON CAMPUS: David Puig signed last fall and is ready to contend this year and earned a trip to the Amateur. He is ranked No. 39 in the WAGR rankings as of August 5.
