SAN FRANCISCO – Alongside the Pac-12 Conference, third-year Arizona State volleyball head coach Sanja Tomasevic has announced the schedule for the 2019 season, which will begin for ASU on September 26 at home against in-state rival Arizona.
"I am really excited to start the season," Tomasevic said. "The Pac-12 schedule is exciting and challenging, as always. We are likely to play a ranked opponent almost every night, and that is super exciting to me and the team. I'm looking forward to this season."
In 2019, ASU will face every Pac-12 team twice, both home and away, except for UCLA and USC who Arizona State will play once each. There will be 12 matches on the Pac-12 Network. Other streaming options will be known at a later date.
The Pac-12 is loaded again in 2019. The conference had eight teams in the NCAA tournament in 2018, including the reigning national champion Stanford. Four teams advanced to the third round: Oregon, Stanford, Washington and Washington State.
The first chance for fans to catch a glimpse of the Sun Devils will be on August 24 at the Maroon and Gold Scrimmage, which will be free and open to the public. Following the four non-conference tournaments on the road, the Sun Devils will begin Pac-12 play on September 26 in Tempe against the Wildcats. Three days later, they will be in Los Angeles to face the Bruins.
"It is unfortunate that we will not be home for any non-conference matches, but I believe being on the road is good early in the season to help the team grow together," Tomasevic said. "We have nine people who haven't played in the Pac-12 or in an official game for us. It will be awesome to have a chance to put it all together before we present the team to our home crowd."
In October, Arizona State will be home for the first and last weekends and on the road in between then. The mountain schools (Utah and Colorado) will visit the first weekend before ASU heads to the bay area to take on Cal and Stanford. Washington and Washington State are set for October 18 and 20 before Arizona State finishes the month with the Oregon schools in Tempe.
November starts with the mountain schools again, this time on the road. Then it is back at Wells Fargo Arena with Stanford and Cal on November 7 and 10. The last trip out of state will be to Oregon for matches on November 15 and 17. The final three home matches will be against Washington State, Washington and USC. The final match of the regular season will be in Tucson on November 30 against Arizona.
