ORLANDO, Fla. – The Sun Devil men's tennis duo of No. 18 Nathan Ponwith/Dominik Kellovsky are set to take the stage at the 2019 NCAA Men's Tennis Doubles National Championships kicking off this Tuesday, May 21. The tournament will take place at the USTA National Campus in Orlando and includes the top 32 doubles tandems in the nation.

The ASU pair will take on Patrick Kaukovalta and Mazen Osama of Alabama in the first round at 1:30 p.m. MST. While the Sun Devils have not faced off against that specific duo, ASU did defeat Alabama in the title match of the 2018 Blue Gray Classic last season. Michael Geerts handed Osama a 2-6, 7-6, 6-4 loss in singles play on court one while Kaukovalta took a three-set win over Makey Rakotomalala on court three.

Representing Arizona State's highest-ranked doubles pair since 1994 when peaking at No. 8 earlier in the season, Ponwith/Kellovsky have been one of the Sun Devils' best performing doubles pairs all season long. The pair kicked off 2019 with three-straight wins, including over a pair from then No. 1 and 2019 National Championship finalist Wake Forest.

The tandem's momentum never slowed, gliding past the No.1-ranked team and No. 1 seed heading into the doubles championships of Jimmy Benedeck/Sven Lah from Baylor. Ponwith/Kellovsky handed the Bear tandem a relatively easy 6-3 loss for their team-leading third win over a ranked opponent.

Ponwith/Kellovsky finished out the 2019 dual match season with a team-best 13 wins while taking victories in six of their last nine matches.
