SAN FRANCISCO – A program-record seven student-athletes on the Arizona State beach volleyball team received Pac-12 All-Academic honors, including three on the first team, as announced by the conference on Friday.
Among the seven Sand Devils recognized, Katie Cross, Ellyson Lundberg and Samantha Plaster are on the first team, Cierra Flood is on the second and Kate Baldwin, Katelyn Carballo and Oluoma Okaro are on the honorable mention list.
For Lundberg, this is her second-straight year on the first team. Last year, Cross was on the second team, improving this year to the first team to cap off her career at Arizona State. Carballo earned her second consecutive honorable mention nod.
Sophomores Plaster, Flood and Baldwin all received their first all-academic honors after getting a full year under their belt. Senior Okaro added her honorable mention nod to her list of Pac-12 accolades this year, in addition to being named Pac-12 Pair of the Week in April and to the All-Pac-12 First Team.
The Sand Devils have continued to adhere to Arizona State's rich tradition of athletic and academic excellence under the direction of head coach Brad Keenan. As a contingent, Arizona State beach volleyball was one of eight Sun Devil programs recognized as an APR (Academic Progress Report) Top-10 percent performer in 2019. Exemplifying the team's academic excellence, the Maroon and Gold managed a perfect score of 1000.
To be eligible for selection to a Pac-12 All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and must have participated in at least fifty percent of competitions this regular season. First-year student-athletes are not eligible for Pac-12 All-Academic Teams. To see the complete list, head to the Pac-12's website.
