Chun An Yu fired a bogey-free 5-under 65 in Tuesday's second round at the 2019 Stanford NCAA Regional.

The No. 1 seeded Sun Devil men's golf team did what it needed to do on Tuesday to put itself on the good side of the five-team cut line at the NCAA Stanford Regional held at the Stanford Golf Course (par-70/6,727 yards).

ASU shot an 8-under 272 -- 11 shots better than Monday, the second-best round of the day and the third-best round through the first two rounds -- and is tied for second in 75-player field with North Carolina at 5-under 555.

The 13 teams will play 18 holes Wednesday to finish as five teams and the low individual not on an advancing team from each regional advances to the finals May 24-29 at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville.

Junior Chun An Yu, after notching bogeys in three of six previous holes late Monday, posted a birdie on No. 18 Monday that carried momentum to Tuesday as he shot a bogey-free 5-under 65. He is now tied for fifth and just three shots off the lead at 4-under 136 (71-65).

Pac-12 Freshman of the Year Cameron Sisk shot another 1-under 69 and posted three birdies as he is tied for 11th at 2-under 138 (69-69).

Junior Alex del Rey bounced back with an impressive 2-under 68 after shooting 76 on Monday. He posted five birdies, while sophomore Mason Andersen bounced back after three straight bogeys early to shoot 1-under on his final holes.

This marks just the third time in 10 seasons ASU is competing in the Pacific Time Zone for regional action.

Arkansas is the host institution for the 2019 championships, while ASU is the host school for the 2020-22 Championships at Grayhawk Golf Course.

LAST YEAR AT REGIONALS: The @SunDevilMGolf team knew it had a tough task ahead of it when it was seeded No. 4 in the 2018 #NCAAGolf Raleigh Regional, more than 2,100 miles away. In the field was ACC champion and fourth-ranked Georgia Tech, No. 9 California, No. 16 Texas and then some local flavor that always makes a regional trip stressful. Host North Carolina State (No. 36), and same region neighbors No. 28 Duke, MEAC champion Augusta and Big South champion Liberty all fired hot final rounds and had the Sun Devils on the ropes, but sophomore Chun An Yu wasn't ready to call it a season. The Sun Devils, needing a birdie on the final hole to realistically have any chance at a playoff, not only got a birdie but Georgia Tech posted a bogey and as a result the two-time NCAA Champion Sun Devils (1990 and 1996) were off to Stillwater for the NCAA Championships as the youngest team in the field.

CRAZY STAT: Six Sun Devils have earned or shared medalist honors this season. Jino Sohn and James Leow tied for first at the 37-player 2019 Arizona Intercollegiate individual tournament (Jan. 28-29). Alex del Rey won the 84-player National Invitational March 18-19 and freshman Cameron Sisk earned the Sonoran Showdown 20-player event, with both events taking place in Tucson. Sophomore Mason Andersen won a playoff to claim the 91-player field at San Diego's Lamkin Grips Classic on March 11-12, and then Chun An Yu put his name in the 2019 winner's column April 12-13 at ASU's Thunderbird Collegiate.

QUIETLY HAVING A GOOD SEASON: Lost in the chatter about six individual winners and three straight team titles is the solid season freshman Cameron Sisk is having, as his stroke average is currently the best by any Sun Devil freshman, with some pretty good golfers on the list dating to 1985. He earned Pac-12 Freshman of the Year.
