TEMPE, Ariz. – The Sun Devil women's basketball team will be one of eight teams competing in this year's Gulf Coast Showcase taking place Nov. 29 - Dec. 1 at Hertz Arena in Estero, Fla.
The Sun Devils will play three games in three days against a field that includes 2019 NCAA Tournament participants Auburn, Drake, Gonzaga and Maine in addition to Middle Tennessee, Dayton and Purdue. Matchups will be announced at a later date.
This will be ASU's second appearance at the Gulf Coast Showcase. The Sun Devils went 2-1 at the tournament in 2014.
"The fact that five teams in the women's field has played here before tells you what college basketball thinks of the Gulf Coast Showcase," said Women's Tournament Director and ESPN analyst Debbie Antonelli. "We set out to create the best women's tournament in the country, and once again, this eight-team field highlights the best the sport has to offer. And, this year's field is as wide-open as any since the tournament's inception."
Tickets for the 2019 Gulf Coast Showcase will go on-sale this summer. Fan travel information, including preferred hotel rates at the official tournament resort hotel – the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point – is available on www.GulfCoastShowcase.com.
The Sun Devils finished 15th in the nation in 2018-19, setting school records for consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances (six) and 20-win seasons (six). ASU won a pair of games in the 2019 NCAA Tournament and advanced to the Sweet 16 for the fifth time since 2005.
