SAN FRANCISCO – Sun Devil sophomore Samantha Noennig has earned her first Pac-12 Women's Field Athlete of the Week honor, the conference announced Tuesday.

Noennig received the honor for her impressive outing at the Desert Heat Classic where she doubled in the discus throw and shot put, setting personal bests in both on her way to the two event wins.

The defending indoor shot put champion set the tone early for the Devils down in Tucson when she won the discus with a throw of 55.06m/180-7 feet. Along with placing her on the school record list at No. 10 in history, the mark moved her to 12th in the region in the event, making her one of two ASU women with top-15 marks in multiple events (Jessica Barreira [javelin, long jump]).

Later in the evening, Noennig finished atop the standings again when she won the shot put and matched her indoor PR of 17.91m/58-9.25 feet.

She won the shot by more than three feet and did so by besting a former NCAA champion and Olympian in the process, former Mississippi star Raven Saunders.

Noennig's throw kept her at fourth in Sun Devil history in the outdoor event, but she's moved within two feet of third-place Sarah Stevens.

Including Noennig's honor, three Sun Devils have received Pac-12 weekly awards this outdoor season. Beatrice Llano started things off with a bang when she received the honor in week one, and William Paulson picked it up on the men's side when he set the national lead in the 1,500 a few weeks ago.

Arizona State's regular season is nearing its end as a couple of Devils will run in Palo Alto this week before shutting it down until the Pac-12 Championships May 11-12 in Tucson.
