SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Sophomore attacker Emily Glagolev has been on an offensive tear as of late, with her spectacular performance this past week earning her Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week honors, the conference announced on Monday afternoon.
Glagolev was the main offensive threat in the Sun Devils' two games, compiling four goals and seven assists leading her team to a split against two California opponents. In Arizona State's 13-11 win over San Diego State last Wednesday, Glagolev was refused to let her team lose in an all-around dominant effort. She finished with a career-high nine points (3 goals & 6 assists), including hitting the 50-point plateau on the season in style with a clutch goal late in the second half to put the game away. It is the second time she has finished with at least eight points in a game, producing eight points in a road victory over Oregon back in March. With the victory, the Sun Devils reach six wins for the second consecutive season.
When the competition has increased, so has Glagolev's game, as she has not been afraid of big moments. Her 17 assists against conference opponents leads the Pac-12, while her 31 points in conference play tie her with Kerri Clayton for fifth. Glagolev has recorded 13 of her points against ranked teams, finishing with at least two points in four of six games against Top-25 competition. The nine points Glagolev recorded are the second most by a Pac-12 player this season, trailing only her teammate Kerri Clayton, who took home Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week honors earlier in the month after a record-breaking 12-point performance in the victory over Oregon.
Glagolev becomes the third Sun Devil to take home a weekly conference award. Most recently, Kerri Clayton took home the award two weeks ago after a record-breaking performance in a win over Oregon. Clayton was magnificent in matching Colorado's Darby Kiernan (12 points vs. Jacksonville – 5/11/18) for the most points by a Pac-12 player in a single game. Her eight-goal output also represent a high for the Pac-12 conference in 2019 and set a new school record. The dynamic duo of Clayton and Glagolev has racked up 55 goals and 42 assists at this point in the season, accounting for a combined 97 points.
The Sun Devils first recipient, freshman midfielder Kaylon Buckner, took home Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week honors for the first week of the season. Buckner was all over the field in a victory over Kennesaw State, finishing the contest with six caused turnovers, earning five draw controls and in addition to securing a ground ball. She may have won Defensive Player of the Week honors, but the freshman also served as a key part of the Sun Devil attack. She recorded four points (two goals & two assist), including tallying the game-winning goal in the second half.
