Seattle, Wash. -- The 24th-ranked Arizona State softball team (25-17, 5-11) fell to No. 4 Washington, 6-0, in the series finale at Husky Softball Stadium Sunday afternoon.
Despite working a pair of runners on in the top of the first, the Sun Devils would be turned away empty handed. Following the scoreless top of the first for ASU, the Huskies jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a solo-shot to center off the bat of Morganne Flores, who tied Maddi Hackbarth for the Pac-12 lead in home runs through league play.
With ASU unable to get the offense going again in the second, the Huskies extend their lead to 2-0 with a RBI single in the home half of the frame.
ASU put more pressure on in the third as Skylar McCarty made her way to third on an error by the Washington defense with one away in the inning. Unfortunately for the Sun Devils, the Husky defense would buckle down to pick up a pair of quick outs to hold the Devils off the board for the third straight inning.
The Huskies got things going again in the bottom of the fourth, connecting on a leadoff homer to right, making it a 3-0 game.
Following a scoreless fifth from both teams, Washington would strike again in the sixth, plating three runs on two hits to push their lead to 6-0. With the Sun Devils unable to counter in the seventh, the game would go final with ASU falling to 25-17 on the season.
With the conclusion of the three-game road series this weekend, ASU has wrapped up a grueling nine game stretch that included six games against teams ranked in the top-five. The Sun Devils will be off next weekend, but will hit the road again, April 26-28, to face Stanford in Palo Alto, Calif.
