Seattle, Wash. -- The 24th- ranked Arizona State softball team (25-16, 5-9) fell to No. 4 Washington, 9-2, in the second of three games at Husky Softball stadium Saturday afternoon.

With the Sun Devils unable to bring in a run in the top of the first, it was the Huskies who would put the first run on the board with a pair of singles that made the score 1-0 after the first inning.

In the second, ASU again worked a runner into scoring position, but were again held off the board. In the home half, Mejia continued to deal, picking up back-to-back strikeouts before ending the frame with a fly ball to Skylar McCarty in left.

With the Sun Devils again unable to counter in the third, UW would double their lead with a fly ball down the line in left that just stayed fair for a leadoff home run.

In the top of the fourth, junior Jade Gortarez launched a home run of her own to center, scoring Kindra Hackbarth who reached base with a leadoff walk, tying the game at 2-2. The home run was Gortarez' second of the season, and the 68th- for the Sun Devils in 2019.

The Huskies would answer back in the bottom of the inning, however, brining in a pair of runs on a triple to left to make it 5-2, before a three-run homer pushed the UW lead to 7-2.

With the Sun Devils unable to cut into the UW lead, the Huskies would add another run with a RBI single to first to make it an 8-2 game after five.

After adding a run in the sixth, and closing down the Sun Devil offense in the top of the seventh, the game would go final, 9-2.

Game three of the weekend series is set for a noon first pitch on Sunday, and is set to be broadcast on the Pac-12 Network. Fans can follow all of the action from the series finale by following @ASUSoftball on Twitter.
