ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Arizona State beach volleyball squad opened the Eckerd College Battle on the Bay tournament with wins over North Florida (5-0) and Florida Gulf Coast (4-1) on Friday.
The Sand Devils improve to 5-3 with the two wins today. They have won three matches in a row, the longest streak of the season so far. Arizona State pairs played in six matches that went to three sets today. Katelyn Carballo and Ellyson Lundberg was the only pair to play in two matches today that went to three, winning both for ASU.
Match One – ASU 5, North Florida 0
In the first match of the day, the Sun Devils won 5-0 in dramatic fashion. Four of the five matches went to three sets. Oluoma Okaro and Ashley Wenz on court one won two close 21-19 sets to take their match in two. The No. 2, 3 and 5 pairs all lost their first sets and battled back to win in three.

The Sun Devils won the matches with the No. 1, 2, 4 and 5 pairs, only dropping the match at No. 3. The top two courts were high intensity, both matches going to three sets with ASU winning both. Courts four and five only needed two sets but were competitive.
