QUICK FACTS

The Sun Devils swept three of the four weekly Pac-12 honors, as Cierra Runge (swimmer), Ashley McCool (diving) and Youssef Selim (diving) all took home their respective player of the week accolades. The wins came after the the Arizona meet in which the men won and the women set two school records. Selim joined diver David Hoffer, who was also named Pac-12 Diver of the Week in January.

Five women will represent the Sun Devils at the 2019 Women's Swimming and Diving Championships in Austin, Texas this week. Both Cierra Runge and Emma Nordin earned spots in the 200, 500 and 1650 free, Fanny Teijonsalo in the 50 free, 100 fly and 100 free and Silja Kansakoski in both breaststroke events. Frida Kaellgren will take both springboard events over in the diving well to round out ASU in Austin.

FOR THE RECORD

Cierra Runge and Emma Nordin puncuated a successful regular season for the Sun Devil women, setting two school records for the Sun Devils in the 200 freestyle and 1000 freestyle, respectively in the Devils' matchup in Tucson.

Runge broke Shannon Landgrebe's 2012 record of 1:44.35 with a time of 1:44.05 against the Wildcats while Nordin shattered Tristin Baxter's record in the 1000 free by over three seconds at 9:40.71.

Runge broke three school records last weekend at the Pac-12 Championships in the 500, 1000 and 1650 free. Runge broke two the 1000 and 1650 records in one swim, as her time of 15:51.72 was the top mark in the mile and she clocked in at 9:35.26 for her first 1000 to break Nordin's record from earlier this season.

THE STACKED-12

The conference of champions really is just that in swimming, as all six of the men's member schools and six of the nine women's member schools are ranked in the final edition of the TYR/CSCAA Division I Coach's Poll.

On the women's side, the conference is tied for the most on the list with the ACC and SEC. On the men's side, the conference is tied for the second-most on the list, second only to the SEC with seven schools ranked.

ALL-AMERICAN

Frida Kaellgren looks to repeat as an NCAA All-American in 2019, a feat she achieved last season in the one-meter board. Kaellgren placed fifth overall in the event to take those honors, and she will compete again this year in the one meter and three meter springboards to attempt to go back-to-back.

Kaellgren became the first Sun Devil since 2013 the rack up a first-team honor, but an ASU woman hasn't notched back-to-back first-team honors since Elina Eggers did it in platform in 2011 and 2012.

RECLAIMING HER CROWN

Silja Kansakoski reclaimed her Pac-12 title in the 100 breast two weeks ago, taking the top mark at 59.12 at the 2019 Pac-12 Swimming and Diving Championships. Kansakoski was a first-team All-American in the event at the National Championships last year, placing sixth overall in the event.

Kansakoski entered the evening championship heat as the No. 1 seed after taking the top time in the morning preliminary session. She edged second place by a quarter-of-a-second, on of the largest margins between two places within the championship heat.

AT THE TOP IT ISN'T LONELY

Cierra Runge holds three times that are good for top-5 in Division I Swimming in the 500, 1000 and 1650 freestyle events. Runge achieved all three marks at the Pac-12 Championships two weeks ago, taking third place in the 500 free and second place in the mile.

ON THE WORLD STAGE

Freshman Ashley McCool represented her country in her native Calgary at the 2018 Canada Cup Grand Prix, earning silver in the 3M synchro ahead of the United States, Cuba and Germany.

McCool added another medal to her collection at the Summer Speedo Nationals, putting up a score of of 283.10 in the finals to place third in the event and earn a bronze medal.

Frida Kaellgren competed again in the 1M dive for her country at the Swedish National Championships, racking up her second-straight gold medal in the event to become a Swedish National Champion in the event. Kaellgren notched a gold medal in the same event in 2017 and a silver in the 3M dive as well.

HOMECOMING

The Sun Devils added a new coach to the staff in the offseason -- #SunDevil4Life Herbie Behm.

Behm returns to Tempe after serving as the assistant sprints coach at the University of Utah for two seasons. During his tenure in Salt Lake, Behm led a group of 20+ student-athletes in their daily training programs while assisting and working with each individuals' technique, training strategies and post-race analysis. Under Behm's tutelage, 20 student-athletes set school records in just two seasons.

Behm, a Tucson-native, swam at Arizona State from 2010-13. Excelling in the classroom as well, Behm was a three-time Scholar-Athlete Award winner and graduated with his degree in Psychology while minoring in Communications. As a Sun Devil, Behm was a part of the foursome that set the school record in the 400 medley relay.
