@SunDevilMGolf continued their hot streak Monday at the National Invitation Tournament in Tucson. The team is six strokes ahead of the competition after day one with the final round to be played on Tuesday. The team shot 25-under in round 2, the best round by ASU in the Golfstat era (1993-94 to present). The Sun Devils are yet to place worse than fourth place at any event this year.
"There are so many cool things to celebrate today," noted head coach Matt Thurmond. "I'm really happy for Won Jun Lee. In his first tournament in our lineup he is 9-under after two rounds. What a great day for him. He came out with great energy, birdied the first two holes and was off and running. He, along with Blake and Kevin had no bogeys in the second round. We only had three bogeys and a double in the entire second round. Kevin hasn't had a bogey yet."
"The biggest challenge out here is mental fatigue or losing focus and our guys clearly stayed with every shot to the end. What a round by Alex! He sort of lost his swing for a few holes in the first round and even bogeyed his first hole of the second round but played his last 17 in nine-under. It's a great all around day. James and Cameron tore it up in the individual event at the same time. We are hitting the cold and hot tubs tonight and coming out to do it again tomorrow. It won't be easy. USC and others are right there and we need to keep the foot on the gas."
