BERKELEY, Calif – Sun Devil men's tennis finished up their first weekend of Pac-12 play tonight, taking the doubles point against Cal but eventually falling, 4-2.

All three tandems jumped out to 1-0 leads in doubles play after rain caused a delay five minutes into play. All transferred that into 2-1 leads, and No. 39 Tim Ruehl/Andrea Bolla finished up first on court three, gliding to a 6-3 victory.

No. 49 Nathan Ponwith/Dominik Kellovsky clinched the doubles point with a win on one for their fourth victory of the season as a pair. The clinch left No. 55 Makey Rakotomalala/Justin Roberts unfinished on court two.

Heading into singles play, Rakotomalala notched a quick 6-2, 6-3 victory to extend the Sun Devils' lead to 2-0. The win is the Frenchman's sixth of the year, and he also leads the team in singles wins and doubles wins in tandem with Roberts.

The Bears took three-straight wins on courts four, three and one to take a 3-2 overall lead thereafter. The match came down to Justin Roberts on court five, however, despite playing two sets that both went into highly competitive tiebreakers, the graduate student dropped the match 7-6 (4), 7-6 (2).

No. 74 Nathan Ponwith was left unfinished on court two with the 4-2 Cal victory.

Sun Devil men's tennis makes a quick stop at home for a midweek matchup with Liberty before heading off to Indian Wells for the BNP Paribas Open next weekend.

The Tuesday matchup with the Flames is set for a 5 p.m. MST first serve, and fans can keep up with the action all season-long by following @SunDevilMTennis on Twitter.
