FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – Sun Devil men's swimming finished up day two of the 2019 Men's Swimming Pac-12 Championships, setting 10 personal records and recording five NCAA B-Cuts in the process. Through two days, ASU sits in third place.

THE DETAILS

Sophomore Grant House raced to a personal best time of 1:43.97 in the 200 IM prelims only to reset that mark in the championship heat, touching the wall at 1:42.83 for fourth place. House was less than one-tenth of a second (0.06) from placing podium, but does become just the third male in ASU history to go sub-1:43.00 in the 200 IM.

The ASU underclassmen shined tonight, as six of the eight Sun Devils participating in the finals tonight were non-seniors. Their efforts were further highlighted by two freshmen in Jack Little and Ethan Luc.

With the Territorial Cup Series point on the line this weekend, the Sun Devil men sit in third place, one place above the Wildcats with a 25-point advantage.

STRAIGHT FROM COACH BOWMAN
I think we've done okay so far. Our team has been a little affected illness and injury recently, so we have some people not swimming and even some of the people here are not at 100%. Despite that, we've put up a great effort and we've recorded some credible times, so I'm pleased with our performance so far. Tomorrow and Saturday will be much better days for us event-wise, so each day we should improve in terms of how we stack up against the competition. This is a year where we're trying to teach a whole lot of young guys how the game is played, and they're doing a very good job of that.

That was a great swim for Grant in the 200 IM tonight. He took it to a level where I really think he can swim. It's a relatively new event for him, and he made a huge drop in time just in this day. It was a really good step forward, and I think he can do several things to be faster at NCAAs.

Our underclassmen are learning all the time. Those guys are stepping up and they're figuring some things out. They have to learn how to perform under pressure and how to swim against the very best because our conference is tough. We're a very young team and it just takes time for them to go through putting the pieces together. I'm pleased with where they are right now.

Evan's 50 free swim tonight was a very good swim for him. It was actually his first great swim of the meet. He's done a great job of training this year, and it's the same thing where he's only a sophomore so he's learning to put all of the pieces together. He's an important part of our relays and he'll be important as we swim the 100 free and 100 fly later in the meet. I think he settled down a little bit after the first day because he had too much energy, so he's relaxed a little bit and is swimming faster.
