TEMPE, Ariz. – The Sun Devil Lacrosse team picked up their second win of the season after defeating Stetson, 11-3, Sunday afternoon back at Sun Devil Soccer/Lacrosse Stadium.

Defense would be the theme of the first half, as it took both sides time to establish an offensive rhythm. Once the Sun Devils broke through, there was no looking back, as they shut out the Hatters on their way to a 6-0 halftime lead. Allowing only one goal through the first 53 minutes of the game, ASU's defensive unit made their presence felt early and often. The Sun Devils were able to control the pace of the game throughout the second half, cruising to an 11-3 bounce-back victory.

A rare scoreless 15-minutes to start the game was broken by Taylor Carson, who put the Devils on the board first, finishing off a pass from Emily Glagolev. Arizona State began to click offensively, scoring five more unanswered goals to lead 6-0 going into halftime. The Sun Devils got scoring from several different sources, led by Carson, Maddy Hunter and Kerri Clayton, who all had two goals in the first half as well as Emily Glagolev, who assisted on two of those goals. Goalkeeper Berkeley Bonneau was stellar throughout the afternoon, but she looked locked-in early, recording a first-half shutout.

It took until a minute into the second half for Stetson to get on the board, but the goal was quickly answered by Kate Dougherty. The attacker scored back-to-back goals in less than two minutes to put the Sun Devils up 8-1. Maddy Hunter continued her outstanding afternoon, adding to the lead with another goal to record the hat trick with 21 minutes still remaining in the game. Emily Glagolev was getting her teammates involved throughout the game, but added a goal of her own to extend the lead to eight. Kerri Clayton registered yet another hat trick by scoring minutes later off of the first assist of the season from Mia Harp. Bonneau continued her spectacular play in the second half, finishing the contest with seven saves, several of which came at key moments.

Arizona State's defensive effort was a historic one, as they gave up only three goals, the lowest in program history. The Sun Devils managed to win the ground ball battle, 34-23. A sense of urgency was evident throughout the lineup, as nine different players finished with multiple ground balls. The home side outshot Stetson 29-13 total and also led 23-9 in the shots on goal department. The Hatters finished with 29 turnovers, thanks in large part to the pressure applied by the Arizona State defense. Carley Adams celebrated her birthday by dishing out a pair of assists, causing havoc on the Hatters defense.

The Sun Devils remain at home for their next game, which is scheduled for March 5 at 4:00 p.m. when they take on Vanderbilt at Sun Devil Soccer/Lacrosse Stadium.
