Cathedral City, Calif. -- The No. 13 Arizona State softball team struggled on the opening day of the 2019 Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, falling to No. 20 Oklahoma State, 2-0, and No. 23 Texas Tech, 8-0, Thursday afternoon.

In game one, the Sun Devils and Cowgirls traded scoreless innings for the first three innings, before Oklahoma State was able to break through for the first run of the game in the top of the fourth.

Looking to respond, the ASU offense worked a runner into scoring position, but OSU pitcher, and 2018 NFCA All-South Region First Team member Samantha Show, worked out of the jam to hold Arizona State off the board.

After a scoreless fifth, the Cowgirls added another run with a solo-shot to right to pull the score to the final, 2-0.

With very little time between games, the Sun Devils found themselves back in action less than an hour latter, this time facing No. 23 Texas Tech.

The Red Raiders, playing in their first game of the day, looked to be the fresher team, plating six runs in just the first inning of play. ASU finally settled in through the second and third innings, holding TTU scoreless in the second and third innings.

With the Sun Devils unable to get their offense going, and the Red Raiders scratching in two more runs in the fourth, ASU found themselves on the wrong end of an 8-0 run-rule victory.

The Sun Devils will be back in action tomorrow for a pair of games against Nebraska and Texas A&M. First pitch against the Huskers is set for 11 a.m. MST, with the matchup against the Aggies scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. start.
