TEMPE – Sun Devil senior Jessica Barreira had a triple jump series for the history books in Lubbock, Texas, Friday, leaping 12.85m/42-2 feet at the Texas Tech Invitational and moving to second in school history in the event.
Barreira bested her previous personal best four times, eventually landing 42 feet clear of the board and at the top of the MPSF. Her mark is second all-time to former Pac-12 champion Keyasia Tibbs who soared 13.16m/43-2.25 feet back in 2017.
Sydnee Larkin improved on her personal best with a mark of 12.26m/40-2.25 feet in the triple jump. The leap keeps her at sixth in school history, only five inches away from matching Christabel Nettey's fifth-place mark.
Up in the Pacific Northwest, Fearghal Curtin, Jackson Lewis and John and Megan Reniewicki made their season debuts in the 5,000-meter runs.
Curtin finished third in the event in a time of 14:05.08. He just missed out on cracking the top-10 in ASU history, but put himself into the top-12 nationally. John Reniewicki finished ninth in the same race in a 10-second personal best of 14:14.39. Lewis debuted with a huge personal best of 14:38.82, more than 30 seconds better than his best as a freshman.
Megan Reniewicki opened her season with a 17:44.38 in the 5K. She was the only ASU woman competing in open events in Seattle Friday, but Daan Haven and Bianca Tinoco will lace up for their openers Saturday, and four Sun Devils ran in Friday's women's DMR.
On the track in Lubbock, freshman Nia Brown advanced out of the prelims of the women's 60-meter dash with a 7.67(q), and went on to run a 7.62 in the second round.
Alexandra Williams dropped her personal best down to 8.55 in the 60-meter hurdles and moved closer to ninth all-time in Sun Devil history.
The Sun Devils will resume action in Lubbock and Seattle, and the men's pole vaulters will get their weekend going in Albuquerque Saturday as well.
