RED LION, Pa. – In a historic match in which No. 10 Arizona State and No. 24 Lock Haven brought a top-25 collegiate wrestling dual to central Pennsylvania's Red Lion High School, the Sun Devils fell, 23-14.
Of note, No. 5 Josh Shields defeated No. 4 Chance Marsteller at 165 lbs. in the exciting final bout of the night, a bout which took two sudden victories and two sets of tiebreakers to determine. The win marks Shields' best of the season after previously facing, and falling to, the then-No. 1, 2, and 4-ranked wrestlers at his weight class.
No. 2 Zahid Valencia (174) also got a major decision victory to kick off the night while No. 24 Josh Maruca (149) also picked up a major decision win in the second half of the match. Dating back to Dec. 29, 11 of Valencia's 12 victories have come by bonus points.
