Preview by Liesl Babicka, Sun Devil Athletics' Intern
TEMPE, Ariz. --With fresh legs coming off a bye week, the No. 17/15 Sun Devils head back east for cold weather once again, but this time to take on Boston University (9-9-3).
Arizona State (16-9-1) was swept at Cornell two weeks ago. However, earlier this season when the Devils were swept on the road they followed a bye week with a road sweep of Princeton, who was also ironically receiving votes at the time.
"If we commit to playing our style of game, we work to out compete and out skate, we think we can beat anybody and we've proven that," said head coach Greg Powers. "Our guys have to take our mentality into Friday and see what happens."
Last season, the Terriers came to Arizona this very same weekend and ran away with both games from the Devils.
In the second game, special teams dominated with two power play goals and one shorthanded for ASU despite falling in a late nail-biter, 4-3.
In their last seven games, BU has gone 5-1-1 including a win against No. 7/8 Providence. Terrier defenseman Dante Fabbro is a big piece of that recent success, as he's riding a four-game point streak with a point-per-game average over that stretch. He has two goals and five assists in his last four games.
Not falling far behind ASU's own Joey Daccord, junior goaltender Jake Oettinger has a .923 save percentage and 2.59 goals against average this season.
Sophomore forward Johnny Walker continues to lead the nation in scoring with 19 goals so far this season. His 27th point -- a goal in game one against Cornell -- cracked a new Sun Devil program record for points in a season. In the crease, Daccord sports a .930 save percentage and six shutouts.
Between the Sun Devils' five top freshmen, they have tallied 58 points so far this season and ASU remains the only NCAA team with five freshmen with 11 or more points so far this year.
Puck drop is slated for 7:30 p.m. (EST) Friday night and 7 p.m. (EST) Saturday night. Both games can be streamed for free on the Patriot League Network by clicking the appropriate link for each day above.
