SAN FRANCISCO – After a career night at UCLA on Monday, Justine Callis was named the Pac-12 Specialist of the Week, the first for Arizona State gymnastics since 2013.
The last time a Gym Devil won specialist of the week was on January 29, 2013, when Natasha Sundby took home the award. Callis' honor is the fifth specialist nod in program history, the first in her career.
Callis scored a 9.925 on beam at UCLA, which not only won the individual title but was also her career high. That was the first beam title for any Sun Devil this season and the second in the senior's career. She also won last season against Arizona. As a team, Arizona State had a 49.325 on beam, the highest since earning the same total at Stanford in 2018.
In addition to her strong beam performance, Callis scored a 9.775 on bars, which was her first time competing on bars this season. That score tied her career high in that event.
The Gym Devils are back home this Saturday, hosting No. 4 Utah in the Cystic Fibrosis awareness meet and alumni night.
