TEMPE – Arizona native and former Stanford All-American Jessica Tonn has joined the Sun Devil track and field staff as a volunteer assistant, director of track and field Greg Kraft announced Friday.

"I grew up in Scottsdale, and my mom worked in the Sun Angel Athletic Foundation, so I grew up around a lot of ASU athletic events,"  Tonn said. "It worked out so that when I decided to move back to Arizona to continue my professional running career, there was an opportunity to get back to working with a team again, and it happened to be here at a school that I still have so many memories with."

With the Cardinal, Tonn won two Pac-12 titles in the 10,000-meter run and earned seven first-team All-America honors, including several during the cross country season.

Her range made her a unique talent in one of the deepest conferences in the country. In her final Cardinal campaign, Tonn won the MPSF title in the mile and distance medley relay, finished third in the 3,000 at the NCAA Indoor Championships, won her second consecutive 10,000-meter Pac-12 title, and finished third in the same event at the NCAA Championships.

Following her successful collegiate career, Tonn competed post-collegiately for Brooks Beast and ran at four U.S. Outdoor Championships, placing as high as ninth in the 5,000 and 11th in the 10,000.

She was a highly-touted prospect out of high school, having dominated the Arizona high school distance circuit with two individual titles in cross country and 12 on the track.

Tonn joins Kraft's distance staff of former Sun Devil Pac-12 champion Jeremy Rasmussen and Ohio State All-American Cory Leslie.

"The team setting is one of the reasons I love collegiate running so much," Tonn said. "Being able to give back to the running community, especially at the collegiate level, is something I didn't know I'd have a chance to do, but I'm super excited to be here and ot have that opportunity."
