TEMPE, Ariz. - The 2019 season will begin for No. 20 Arizona State gymnastics this Friday with a quad meet in Wells Fargo Arena with No. 19 Minnesota, No. 23 Missouri and the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).

The Gym Devils are looking to start 2019 strong, hosting two ranked opponents. After a strong 2018 that ended at the NCAA Regionals, ASU looks to get to the #NextLevel and push the scores higher than ever before. The team returns Pac-12 Freshman/Newcomer of the Year and NACGC/W Regular Season All-American Cairo Leonard-Baker.

The theme for the meet is Bring the Heat, which will feature 2008 Olympian Samantha Peszek as the special guest. The first 200 fans will receive light-up devil horns. There will also be a raffle for an ASU leotard from Sparky's Stadium Shop.

No. 23 Minnesota
  • The Golden Gophers advanced to NCAA regionals in 2018, where they took fourth in the Minneapolis Regional.
  • Lexy Ralmer, a sophomore this year, qualified for nationals as an individual in the all-around last season. She was named the 2018 Big Ten Freshman of the Year and an NACGC/W Regular Season All-American.
No. 19 Missouri
  • The Tigers finished the 2018 season at the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional where they took fifth. It was their third-straight NCAA regional appearance.
  • Mizzou's best win of 2018 came against No. 5 Florida, the first-ever win against the Gators for the Tigers.
UIC
  • The Flames are starting their last year of gymnastics after the school decided to drop the program at the end of this season.
  • Last year, the team finished third at the Midwest Independent Conference (MIC) Championships and had two individual conference champions and two individual NCAA Regional qualifiers.
