TEMPE, Ariz. – The two-time reigning national champion Sun Devil triathlon team will open the season in a unique way in 2018, participating in the 9/11 Heroes Run in their own backyard near Tempe Town Lake, which will also once again serve as the host site for the USA Triathlon Collegiate Women's National Championship this fall.

The 5K Heroes Run, which will take place Saturday, Sept. 1 at 7:30 am PT, will serve as a countable competition for ASU despite only featuring a run portion. The run is one of many similar events that take place across the world on or near Sept. 11 and is 100% organized by local community volunteers.

For more information on the run, visit https://www.travismanion.org/community-engagement/911-heroes-run/2018-tempe-az/.

Senior Katie Gorczyca will miss the team competition while racing at the 2018 FISU World University Triathlon Championship in Kalmar, Sweden (Aug. 31-Sept. 2). Gorczyca will be one of 54 to compete in the Elite Women's race, and one of just two Americans.

The start list can be found here: https://www.triathlon.org/events/start_list/2018_kalmar_fisu_world_university_triathlon_championship/333610 and the Elite Women's race will take place Saturday, Sept. 1 at 10 am local time (1 am PT).

Later this fall, sophomore Hannah Henry and freshman Audrey Ernst will represent their countries at the ITU World Championships in Australia (Sept. 14-16). The remainder of the Sun Devil triathlon schedule, which culminates in the national championship in Tempe, can be found here: https://thesundevils.com/schedule.aspx?schedule=1468.
