That doesn't mean the Devils stopped competing. Athletes from many sports teams were busy in international competitions this summer.
"Some of these experiences can offer tremendous growth," Sun Devils women's basketball coach Charli Turner Thorne said. "I think it's always a great experience because it's an international competition and you're representing your country. Even if they don't play a lot, they often come home a little more motivated and if they do play, hopefully they learn through that competition and come home better for it."
Here is a quick list and synopsis of the Sun Devils in summer competition.
WOMENS' BASKETBALL
-Kiara Russell: Playing at the FISU America Games in Sao Paolo, Brazil from July 24-28 for Team USA Team.
-Taya Hanson: Playing for Canada at the FIBA U18 Women's Americas Championship in Mexico City from August 1-7.
-Iris Mbulito: Playing for Spain at FIBA U20 Women's Basketball Championship in Sopron, Hungary, July 7-15.

-Jemma Purfield: Represented England at the U23 level vs Sweden.
-Nicole Douglas: Currently with England U19s and is likely to get called up for European Qualifiers.
-Alexia Delgado: Will captain Mexico's U20 in August at the U20 Women's World Cup in France.
-Eva Van Deursen: Will represent The Netherlands in August at the U20 Women's World Cup.
ICE HOCKEY
-Gvido Jansons and forward Filips Buncis: were two of Latvia's final cuts for Latvian World Championship team.
TRIATHLON
Four current and upcoming members of the two-time national champion Sun Devil triathlon team competed in Brasilia, Brazil at the 2018 Brasilia CAMTRI Triathlon American Championships on June 25, with 2017 individual national champion Hannah Henry (Canada) and incoming freshman Audrey Ernst (USA) finished third (bronze medal) and fourth, respectively, in the Junior Elite Race while fellow incoming freshman Kira Stanley (USA) also finished in the top-10 (8th). In the U23 women's race, senior Katie Gorczyca (USA) finished fifth overall with the fifth-fastest run and a top-10 swim and bike among finishers. Coach Cliff English said that Henry, Ernst, Stanley, Gorczyca, Kyla Roy and Charlotte Ahrens are likely to compete at the ITU World Triathlon Grand Final from Sept. 12-16 at Gold Coast, Australia.

-Alethia Marrero: Will compete at the Puerto Rican Championships in August and the NACAC Senior Championships in Toronto in August.
-Maggie Ewen will compete at the Athletics World Cup at London Stadium from July 14-15, and in a Diamond League meet in Monaco on July 20. She will also compete at the NACAC Senior Championships in August.
-Cole Riddle will compete at the U20 World Championships in Tampere, Finland from July 10-15.
-Austin Kratz will also compete at the U20 World Championships in Tampere, Finland from July 10-15.
-William Paulson competed at the Muller British Athletics Championships from June 30-July 1.

-Avital Jaloba: Currently competing for the Israeli national team at the European Championship Qualifiers.

-Jino Sohn: Tied for 16th at the Mexican International Amateur Championship in Mexico City, June 7-10.
-Blake Wagoner: Made match play at the British International Amateur Championship in Aberdeen, Scotland, June 18-23. Will compete at the Canadian Men's Amateur Championship in Qualicum Beach, British Columbia, Aug. 6-9.

-Alex Del Rey Gonzalez: Competed in the Spanish Open in Madrid from April 12-15; the Spanish International Amateur Championship in Los Belones, March 1-4; the British International Amateur Championship in Aberdeen, Scotland, June 18-23; and the European Amateur Championship in The Hague, Netherlands from June 27-30. Will compete in the European Team Championships in August, and the World Amateur Team Championships in Maynooth, Ireland from Sept. 5-8.

-Olivia Mehaffey: Competed in the Women's British Amateur Championship (quarterfinalist) June 26-30 in Southport, England. Competed in the Arnold Palmer Cup July 6-8 in Évian-les-Bains, France, winning the Michael Carter "Junior" Memorial Award, given to one female and one male competing who best represent the ideals of sportsmanship, integrity, and upholding of the game. Competed for Great Britain & Ireland at the Curtis Cup in Scarsdale, N.Y. Competed at the European Ladies' Team Championships for Ireland July 10-14, finishing second individually, and finished seventh at the European Ladies' Amateur Championship July 25-28. Will compete at the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship in Kingston Springs, Tennessee from Aug. 6-12.
-Alexandra Försterling: Competed in the Women's British Amateur Championship and competed at the European Ladies' Amateur Championships for Germany in July.
-Raquel Olmos: Competed at the European Ladies' Amateur Championships for Spain in July.

MEN'S TENNIS
-Michael Geerts: Will be playing pro events across the world, including a tournament in Belgium next week.
-Andrea Bolla: Is playing pro events primarily in Italy this summer.
-Tim Ruehl: Is playing primarily in Germany where he advanced to the semifinals of the Kamen Open last week. Ruehl had to qualify just to get into the draw and then beat the No. 1 seed who was ranked No. 291 (ATP) in the second round.
WATER POLO
-Lena Mihailovic: Competed in the FINA World League Super Final in Kunshan, China, May 28-June 2. Is playing for the Aussie (Australia) Stingers 2018 European Tour Training Squad.
-Rowie Webster: Is playing for the Aussie (Australia) Stingers 2018 European Tour Training Squad.
-Bente Rogge: Won a silver medal at the FINA World League Super Final in Kunshan, China, May 28-June 2. Is playing for the Netherlands senior team. Made the NED senior team for the LEN European Championships, helping lead them to their first gold medal since 1993.
-Blaire McDowell: Won the Canadian U19 National Championships with Saskatchewan in May and was named MVP of the tournament. Made the CAN Jr Team for the UANA Jr Pan American Championships and helped lead the team to a title, also earning MVP honors.

MEN'S & WOMEN'S SWIMMING
Coach Bob Bowman will know his student-athletes schedules after the USA Swimming Phillips 66 Nationals in Irvine, California from July 25-29. The meet is a major qualifier for the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships, as well as the 2019 World Championships, 2019 World University Games and 2019 Pan American Games.
MEN'S & WOMEN'S DIVING
-Ashley McCool: Competed for Canada at the FINA Diving Grand Prix circuit in Bolzano, Italy, July 6-8; Madrid Spain from July 13-15; and in the Canadian Senior National meet in Gatineau, Quebec, Aug. 3-5.
-Frida Källgren: Competed for Sweden at the FINA Diving Grand Prix circuit in Bolzano, Italy, July 6-8; the Italian Open, July 13-15; and the European Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, Aug. 7-12.
WRESTLING
-Zahid Valencia: Advanced to the championship match (Final X) of qualifying for the U.S. Senior team on June 16 in State College, Pennsylvania.
-Brandon Courtney and Chad Porter: Porter made the USA Greco-Roman Junior World Team by winning the USA Wrestling Junior World Team Trials while Courtney made the National Team. Junior World Championships will take place in Trnava, Slovakia in September.
