MILTON KEYNES, Buckinghamshire (England) – Recent Sun Devil Hockey graduate David Norris signed his first professional contract Tuesday with the Milton Keynes Lightning of the new Elite Ice Hockey League of the United Kingdom.

Norris becomes the third Arizona State player in the last two years to sign a professional contract, and the first to head overseas.

"We're all very proud of David," said head coach Greg Powers. "He's worked hard for this opportunity and I'm sure he will make the most of it and get a great life experience over in the UK."

Norris transferred to Arizona State prior to the final season of club hockey to play with his brother and fellow Sun Devil alum, Liam Norris.

In his final two seasons wearing the maroon and gold, Norris tallied eight goals and 20 assists in 52 games for an average of just over a half point per game. Norris was the last Sun Devil to play for both the ASU club program and its three-year-old Division I program.

The Milton Keynes Lightning most recently won the EPIHL Championship in the league's final year and were runners up four times in the last 15 years. The EPIHL disbanded following the 2017 season, thus the Lightning moving to the top-tier EIHL in the United Kingdom.

Norris is one of three recent NCAA players currently on the roster, joining two from Princeton.

The Lightning play their home games out of Planet Ice Arena. Former NHL assistant coach and international head coach Doug McKay steps in as the new head coach of the Lightning in 2018-19.
