SAN FRANCISCO — The Arizona State beach volleyball team has placed six student-athletes on Pac-12 All-Academic teams, as per an announcement made by Commissioner Larry Scott in conjunction with the conference on Friday afternoon.
The Sand Devils proved well represented, garnering a conference-best three first-team honorees — Frances Giedraitis, Kwyn Johnson and Ellyson Lundberg — while receiving a second-team nod from Katie Cross.
Rounding out the list of Sand Devil honorees Mia Rivera and Katelyn Carballo earned honorable mention recognition.
Collecting the third Pac-12 All-Academic of their respective careers were Johnson and Rivera. A two-time Sun Devil graduate, Johnson signs off on an exceptional career in the Maroon and Gold with three first-team honors to her credit.
Newly eligible to conference honors, sophomore standout Ellyson Lundberg and veteran Katie Cross collected academic honors for the first time in their respective careers.
The Sand Devils have continued to adhere to Arizona State's rich tradition of athletic and academic excellence under the direction of head coach Brad Keenan. As a contingent, Arizona State beach volleyball was one of six Sun Devil programs recognized as an APR (Academic Progress Report) Top-10 percent performer in 2018. Exemplifying the team's academic excellence, the Maroon and Gold managed a perfect score of 1000.
To be eligible for selection to an All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and must have participated in at least fifty percent of competitions this regular season. First-year student-athletes are not eligible for Pac-12 All-Academic Teams.
